International Women’s Day (IWD March 8th) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. As part of IWD we are screening the award winning film, ‘Sunday Beauty Queen’
Sunday Beauty Queen (2016) follows the lives of overseas Filipino women who work six days a week as domestic helpers in Hong Kong. On their day off, Sunday, they come together and practise routines for an annual beauty pageant.
The film highlights the often poor conditions that these women are working under. Sunday Beauty Queen is an uplifting story of hope in difficult circumstances. A real-life Cinderella tale.

Urgent Appeal to Support Domestic Workers
In collaboration with the filmmakers of Sunday Beauty Queen, we are asking for donations to Bethune House, a migrant womens’ refuge in Hong Kong. Many of the workers in Sunday Beauty Queen are being forced by their employers to sleep outside when showing even mild symptoms of Covid. They need help now.
