Hello and welcome back to the London Labour Film Festival!
We’re excited to announce the return of our festival series with a surprise ONLINE screening of Bruce McDonald’s chilling psychological horror Pontypool (2008):
“When disc jockey Grant Mazzy reports to his basement radio station in the Canadian town of Pontypool, he thinks it’s just another day at work. But when he hears reports of a virus that turns people into zombies, Mazzy barricades himself in the radio booth and tries to figure out a way to warn his listeners about the virus and its unlikely mode of transmission.”
On a more serious note, you may remember one of our contest winning films from 2017 ‘Operator’ produced by the Fire Brigade Union? This secluded, intense radio setting may feel very familiar. Pontypool is a refreshingly original take on the classic zombie genre, with a claustrophobic vibe to its horror throughout. For fans of Orson Welles’ classic War of the Worlds radio broadcast, you’ll see flashes of the legacy of that famous broadcast in this film.
Pontypool will be available to watch for 7 days (free or donation) on our NEW online service (Eventive) between 3rd November 2021 and the 10th November 2021. Just head on over to the homepage of our website and click on “link to next event” to claim your tickets and watch the event.
This will be the first of our monthly film series. Be sure to keep checking our website (register for updates and read the blog) along with Twitter and Facebook for more news about festival events.
